Postbac Program

NU PREP is a one-year program that provides enhanced research training, academic support, and mentoring to recent post baccalaureate students who are planning to apply to PhD programs in biomedical research. Entry into NU PREP is competitive and based on past research experience, research interests, and career plans. Housed in the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience program (NUIN), PREP offers training in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment that spans twenty departments and three campuses. This research-intensive program is supplemented with individualized advising, coursework in neuroscience, and instruction in scientific communication skills, with opportunities to present research. PREP is designed to prepare its trainees for competitive admissions to graduate school and success thereafter.

Applicants must have received their bachelor’s degree within 3 years of PREP’s start date (July 1st, 2021) and must be US Citizens or permanent residents. Northwestern University follows the guidelines for eligibility set by NIH. Please see the NIH PREP website for more information.

To participate in the PREP program, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident from a group considered underrepresented in biomedical research or from a disadvantaged background;
