One project, joint with <a href="http://www.neurobiology.northwestern.edu/facultypages/spruston/spruston.shtml&quot; rel="nofollow">Nelson Spruston</a> (Neurobiology and Physiology) and <a href="http://people.esam.northwestern.edu/~chopp/&quot; rel="nofollow">David Chopp</a> (Applied Math), is to investigate microcircuits composed of principal neurons and interneurons in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. Computational models are being developed based on the latest data available from ongoing experimental studies, which include patch-clamp experiments measuring ionic conductances, calcium imaging, and full-cell morphological reconstructions.
Another project, joint with <a href="http://www.nuin.northwestern.edu/nuin-content/faculty-records/joshua-singer&quot; rel="nofollow">Joshua Singer</a> (Ophthalmology, Physiology), <a href="http://people.esam.northwestern.edu/%7Eriecke/&quot; rel="nofollow">Hermann Riecke</a> (Applied Math), is to develop computational models of the neural circuitry of the mammalian retina that links the pathways responsible for night (rod photoreceptor) and daylight (cone photoreceptor) vision. A central component of this circuitry is a network of electrically coupled interneurons called AII amacrine cells.
