My research focuses on understanding the principles governing neuromechanical control of human locomotion and applying this knowledge to promote walking recovery following neurological injury. Specifically this research falls into three distinct areas including:
i) applied rehabilitation research to develop intelligent robotic tools to assess and enhance walking stability and maneuverability of individuals recovering from neurologic injury
ii) neuroscience research understand how the human nervous system optimizes muscle recruitment patterns during walking in response to perturbations
iii) skeletal biomechanics research aimed at minimizing fracture risks during gait rehabilitation following spinal cord injury.
